Research Interests

Ryu Research Group

A central theme of our research group is synthesis of molecules with novel functions and properties. We are using tools of synthetic organic chemistry, molecular biology and biochemistry to create small molecules, peptides, proteins and RNAs by both rational and combinatorial approaches. A variety of in vitro and in vivo screening methods are applied to the resulting molecules to study biological pathways and to identify biologically active molecules. The current interests of our research group include:

  • N-Terminal protein acetylation and protein secretion in bacteria
  • Novel molecules to probe and modulate riboswitches
  • Synthetic riboswitches as novel biosensors
